Tip of the week: Using the calendar to generate content

Posted by on Apr 25, 2012 in blog, news, Tip of the Week | 0 comments

This week’s “tip of the week” is to use the calendar to your advantage in sparking traffic. Several stations made a call to action on “National Puppy Day” for users to submit pictures of their pooch, and the response was huge.  Thousands of images were submitted across our platform of stations. There are several days every month that, if used creatively, can create UGC traffic. Incredible kid day, Earth day, best friend’s day and grandparent’s day are just a few that could work. This is a great way to generate interest in your...

From Kentucky and Indiana, to Tennessee, Alabama and, eventually, Georgia and the Carolina’s, Friday’s storms were some of the strongest and devastating seen in a while. And while those storms were making their way through the south, citizen journalists sent in thousands of photos and videos to give TV stations a chance at delivering a new approach to Severe Weather Coverage. More than 10,000 submissions were sent to Cell Journalist as a result of the storms. Those submissions, which were turned into online slideshows, widgets, social...

Promoting the Platform

Posted by on Jan 31, 2012 in blog, news | 0 comments

One of the most important and most asked things we get at Cell Journalist is “how do we promote and brand our UGC site and email address?”  This is important so when breaking news happens or severe weather breaks out, the viewer immediately thinks of that station and not the competition. Brand recognition of your email address is made when the big story isn’t happening.  One of the most successful ways of doing this is with segment bumps.  Simple bumps with beauty shots or contest entries used with a banner that advertises your email...

CAUGHT IN THE CROSS-HAIRS OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Posted by on Oct 23, 2011 in blog, news, Uncategorized | 0 comments

Thursday October 20, 2011. So I turned on the tube about 7:30am CST, and there it was…not exactly the Mo’s most flattering close up….but the one he’ll be remembered for. My first reaction, this is good….one less bad guy to deal with…my second…UGC gets the scoop again….the images and videos leading all the cable news channels that morning were captured on cell phones, not by professional journalists. Watching MSM’s dependence on UGC to visualize this historic moment provided a graphic validation of the fact that Breaking...

Purpose Driven UGC

Posted by on Aug 23, 2011 in blog, news | 0 comments

Over the past few months, some of our clients have had some great success stories with purpose driven UGC. Purpose driven UGC is when the station makes a call to action to the audience, asking them to submit images/videos related to a particular topic. WGCL, in Atlanta, asked people to send in content related to a story on jet chemtrails. The result was simply amazing, over 1500 images/videos came into the station in less than 24 hours. Check out more on the chemtrail story here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4o4NNLN_BpU Here are a few...

April 26, 2011. Birmingham Alabama. Twenty-four hours can be a long time to wait, and not enough time to prepare when it looks like the world as you know it is about to come to an end. That was the sobering, soon to be reality Fox 6 Chief Meteorologist J-P Dice http://www.myfoxal.com/story/10550304/j-p-dice, saw developing as he studied the latest National Weather Service models on an unseasonably hot and humid Tuesday afternoon in April. What he saw, was a menacing low pressure system in the Midwest moving eastward across southern...
